Jenni Phillips Studio Ceramics
I have been making ceramics on and off all my adult life...
At school, in Cornwall, I didn’t take Art ‘O’ level - Latin was thought more important then - but I after local pottery evening classes in my teens and an Art A level, I eventually trained as an Art and Ceramics teacher. That started my love of clay. After a career in education, teaching Art, Ceramics and Art History in secondary, adult education and university, I now enjoy a second life finally putting all my ideas and skills into making ceramics. I’m lucky to work from a small studio with lovely views across the Cornish countryside.
My ceramic work is based on functionality, mainly thrown work, making bowls, jugs, mugs and other vessels. I have 3 ranges of work, decorated earthenware using slips, sgraffito and underglazes, a stoneware range using simple white, green and blue glazes and some occasional work with porcelain. It is all fired in an electric kiln. I also paint mainly seascapes in acrylics.
I sell through local galleries in Cornwall, craft fairs and group exhibitions and also online. After a hiatus during the Covid situation, I am beginning to look forward to a more productive year.
